DEES LOSE AGAIN...

Dundee 0-1 Greenock Morton:      Dens Park. Attendance: 4,096

Greenock Morton came to Dens with the objective of defeating Dundee at Dens. The Dark Blues hadn't been beaten in the league at Dens Park for 19 months before today's game and Morton were determined to walk away with the spoils.

Dundee kicked off in the first half and started very brightly, winning 5 corners in the first five minutes but nothing really amounted to anything that was to trouble the Morton goal. However, Dundee's recent defence errors came back to haunt the Dees again when after six minutes Jackson turned Weston in the Dundee box and managed to get a shot on target and big Rab saved superbly only for Peter MacDonald to turn the rebound into the net. More to follow.....

MORTON PREVIEW

Greenock Morton visit Dens tommorow with a bagful of confidence after winning one game and drawing two games so far in the league. Dundee will have to cut out the defensive mistakes of the previous league game at Livingston and will have to be on their guard in this tricky fixture.

Alan Moore brings a side well organised and strong to Dens and it will be very hard to break down. Having said that, Dundee are unbeaten in their last  4 meetings with Morton, amassing a total of 10 points in the process.

Dundee have a full squad to choose from tommorow.

ABERDEEN EDGE THE DEES OUT OF LEAGUE CUP.

A Darren Mackie goal in the 16th minute on Tuesday was enough to see the Dons through to the next round of the League Cup at the Dees expense.

FRUSTRATION AS AYR FIGHT FOR POINT AT DENS

Dundee 1-1 Ayr United.         Dens Park.  Attendance: 4,686

Dundee were left frustrated as they had to settle for a share of the points in the first game of the season at Dens Park today. Ayr United left Dens with a point after their hard work and graft helped them frustrate the Dark Blues.

Dundee started the game reasonably well and started to control the posession stakes with McCluskey and Riley beginning to trouble the Ayr United defence. However, it was Ayr United that struck first and with their first real attack on goal they scored. A corner in the 14th minute saw Moffat unmarked in the Dundee penalty area and from six yards, he headered the ball past Rab Douglas and into the back of the net. Dundee were shocked. The goal certainly came out of the blue.

To be fair to Dundee, they kept attacking and started to play some nice football. McCluskey was having a lot of joy down the left flank and his blistering pace saw him as a playmaker but unfortunately more often than not, he tried too much and lost posession. Riley had a chance but after he ran through the middle and onto goal, his shot was direct at the keeper and the keeper palmed the ball away to safety.

Dundee were beginning to sense that momentum had shifted their way and in the 30th minute, they equalised. Jamie McCluskey was integral to the build up in the goal. Briefly he switched to the left and after picking the ball up from a throw in he ran inside and from 20 yards unleashed a shot which went over the Ayr keeper and looked like it was going to drop into the net but instead hit the underside of the bar. Fortunately for Dundee, Jake Hyde was on hand to tap the ball in the net.

Dundee continued to threaten for the rest of the first half but for all of their posession and pressure, the Dark Blues couldn't find the goal to put them into the lead.

Young Leighton McIntosh replaced Jake Hyde in the 55th minute and gave Dundee some pace up front, He had the chance to give Dundee the lead after some good interplay from McCluskey and Riley but his shot from 15 yards smashed against the crossbar before Ayr were able to clear.

Ayr United showed their battling skills and magnificently into stoppage time they denied both McIntosh and Chisholm from grabbing the winner for Dundee with dogged and magnificent defending blocks. The final whistle eventually blew and Ayr United left Dens with the heads held high after a gritty and determined performance saw them grab a share of the points. For Dundee, it was a case of frustration. For all the nice football and posession we had, there was just no way Ayr were going to let their point slip away but encouragingly for Dundee, the signs were good in general and it's now onto Livingston next weekend.

A warm welcome to Ayr United and Livingston who join us from the Second Division. Livingston won back to back title wins after being relegated from the First Division to the Third 3 seasons ago for financial problems. They have shown great determination to overcome those obstacles and now are back in the second tier of Scottish Football.
Ayr United join us courtesy of the play-offs. They beat Brechin City in the final to progress to the First Division and will be determined to stay in the First Division for longer than  a season.

HERE WE GO, THE FIRST DIVISION IS BACK FOR A NEW SEASON!

At last, all of the pre-season friendlies have taken place, now it's down to the real buisness that is the start of the new First Division campaign. Dundee have a tricky start away to Partick Thistle. Under Jackie MacNamara, the Maryhill side will be looking to challenge for the title this season. After inheriting the squad after the departure of former bos Ian McCall last season, the new Firhill boss is looking to make his own mark on the team and that has included the signings of  former Queen of the South and Stirling Albion player Scott Robertson, the loan signing of Hearts player Conrad Balatoni and former Arbroath defender Aaron Sinclair.

Dundee head into the new campaign with fresh optimisim after the events of last season. The additions of Steven Milne, Jake Hyde, Ryan Conroy, Jamie McCluskey, Ross Chisholm, Graham Bayne and Neil McGregor will help boost the squad and builds on the heroes of last season whom the majority are still at Dens.

We hope we can get off to the perfect start tommorow with a win over Partick but it will be a tough game and I am sure the boys in Dark Blue will give their all and I am sure we'll be fine.

Airdrie United v Raith Rovers
