Dundee 1-0 Partick Thistle

In what was an emotional day for all Dark Blues with the death of Bobby Cox, Dundee entertained Partick Thistle at Dens Park. Ian McCall brought his troops to Dens in search of their first points against the Dees this season as both fixtures previously ended in Dundee's favour. Partick made a bright start and could have been in front with an early effort that zipped past the far post. Dundee though did not have long to wait to break the deadlock, in fact only 6 minutes. An Eric Paton effort was heavily deflected and sailed past Tuffey into the net, A fitting tribute from the Dundee Captain in front of the Bobby Cox Stand to Bobby Cox. Dundee 1-0 Thistle.
The rest of the first half saw Partick dominate posession but ultimately did little with it apart from a shot that Rab Douglas spilled before Gary McKenzie cleared. Half Time, Dundee 1-0 Thistle.
Dundee started brightly in the second half and on the 50th minute should have doubled their lead with a terrific run from Leigh Griffiths down the left flank who then cut the ball back to an expectant Ben Hutchinson who scuffed his shot wide from 15 yards. The game ebbed and flowed and although Partick played some nice football, Robert Douglas and his defence were not really tested. McMenamin came on for Hutchinson but largely didn't do much. Dundee comfortably saw the game out and another important victory for the Dark Blues in their march to hopefully the First Division title.
Jocky spoke of his sadness in learning of Bobby's death and spoke to the Dundee FC website.
"I am delighted that we got 3 points, obviously for the wee man. I hope he's up there jumping about, enjoying it, enjoying the game and the result."
Asked about what he could say about Bobby, Jocky added "What can't you say about the man?  Unfortunately this is the first battle he didn't win. He was always known as a fighter. Unfortunately it took cancer to beat him."
Jocky went on to say that he hopes that Dundee can now go on and win the league in memory of Bobby
