"Sir" Bobby Cox- True Dundee Legend.

The Dundee FC community paid tribute to a true Dundee FC Legend today after learning of the very sad news of Bobby Cox's death. A minute's applause was well respected from both sets of fans for the 76 year old before Dundee's crucial match with Partick Thistle. I would like to pass my condolences to the Cox family and Bobby's friends and to all associated with Dundee FC at this sad time.

Bobby Cox, "Mr Dundee FC" and a true gentleman.
The loss of Bobby is a blow to all Dundee fans. He guided Dundee FC to their greatest ever achievements, the championship in April 1962 and also to the European Cup semi-finals in 1962/3 under the guidance of Bob Shankly.
Bobby joined Dundee in 1955 and was given his senior debut in 1956 against Queens Park.
He played for Dundee for 14 years, in that time he played over 450 appearances and appeared in one of the best ever teams in Scottish history, alongside players such as Ian Ure, Gordon Smith and Alan Glizean, a team in which he perfected the art of the sliding tackle. Bobby retired in 1969 without ever getting capped for his country but still kept us his links with Dundee FC by working in the hospitality lounges. He was also inducted into the 2009 Hall of Fame at Dens Park. He also used to own the Sliding Tackle pub in Broughty Ferry.
Bobby though died in the early hours of Saturday 20th February 2010 after a battle with cancer. With his death, comes the end of an era but he will still live on in the hearts of those that are connected with
Dundee FC and his name lives on in the shape of the stand that the supporters chose to name after him; the Bobby Cox Stand.
