Player in focus: Eric Paton

Dundee skipper Eric Paton was born in Glasgow on the 1st August 1978. Eric started his professional career with Hibernian and at the age of 19 he gained his debut for the Leith side in the League Cup against Alloa Athletic. Eric was then loaned out to Stenhousmuir where he made 18 appearances for them before returning to Hibernian and played 4 times in the first team during their only season in the First Division. Eric then left Hibs in 2000 and joined Partick Thistle where he made 31 appearances in his one season at Firhill before moving onto Clydebank in 2000/1. Eric made history in his two seasons at Clydebank by scoring the last ever goal that Clydebank scored as Clydebank. He made 70 appearances for the club in total and scored 16 goals. 2002 saw him switch clubs as Queen of the South snapped up the versatile player. 6 years at Palmerston saw him make 200 appearances scoring 10 goals but in January 2008 he elected to sign a pre-contract with Dundee FC and ultimately was used sparingly for the rest of the 2007/8 season.
Since joining Dundee, he has switched from a midfield role to right back, a position where he truly excels.
